About the project

  • Client

    Viking Malt

  • Challenge

To modernise and streamline the control systems at Viking Malt’s Halmstad facility, enabling increased capacity and faster, more reliable ship loading – with a focus on sustainability, safety, and flexibility.

  • Rejlers role

Rejlers has had overall responsibility for the project’s control and monitoring system, including design, programming, system integration, and commissioning.

A future-proof system for increased capacity

Viking Malt in Halmstad needed to expand its capacity and upgrade its equipment – with new silo infrastructure, modern conveyor systems, and a new ship loading system. Rejlers has been the central hub for the automation part of the project, responsible for ensuring that new and existing machines and systems work together seamlessly.

One of the main challenges in the project was integrating new equipment and modern systems with existing infrastructure – without disrupting ongoing operations. It also required precise coordination between machine suppliers and system developers. A clear example is the control of the new ship loader, which needed to be optimised to reduce loading times and cut costs.

Rejlers has programmed and integrated the control system so that all components – from silos and conveyors to ship loaders and analytical platforms – operate as one coherent system. The project has been carried out in close collaboration with the client, with Rejlers experts from Halmstad on site throughout the entire implementation.

Thanks to Rejlers’ automation solution, Viking Malt has increased its capacity from 150 tonnes per hour to 300 tonnes per hour – a doubling that enables faster loading and improved efficiency.

We have also established a long-term support organisation for the client. A dedicated support team from our offices in Halmstad and Kristianstad is ready to assist whenever needed.

Rejlers has also been entrusted with upgrading the control and monitoring system at Viking Malt’s silo facility – an assignment currently in full progress and planned for commissioning in the autumn. Here too, Rejlers has full responsibility for the project, including design, programming, system integration, and commissioning.

The work involves replacing outdated PLC and SCADA systems with modern solutions that give operators better oversight, simplify control, and increase operational reliability. Improved interfaces are being created between the facility’s machines, control systems, and analytical tools – enabling better decision support and more efficient operations.

At the same time, the facility’s systems have become more reliable, user-friendly, and IT-secure, enhancing both the working environment and monitoring capabilities. For the client, this means a modern and scalable platform ready to meet the demands of the future.
