Nordic Nuclear Energy (NNE) has selected Rejlers as a strategic partner for the development and commercialisation of new nuclear power in the Nordic region. The collaboration aims to jointly lay the foundation for the commercialisation and establishment of NNE’s boiling water reactor, BWR-N, as well as micro-modular nuclear technology (MMR), on the Nordic market.

The parties have signed a letter of intent for a long-term partnership, under which Rejlers will contribute technical and commercial support to take the technology from the development phase to industrial realisation. The collaboration includes, among other things, multidisciplinary engineering services, licensing, safety, quality assurance, project management and support ahead of construction, commissioning and testing. The parties will also jointly develop the business model and risk allocation. Rejlers’ unique expertise and experience in the field were decisive in the choice of partner for the project.

“We are now forming a strong team to deliver nuclear power to the Nordic countries. Rejlers has the expertise and Nordic presence we are looking for,” says Göran Engberg, CEO of NNE.

“Nuclear power plays a crucial role in the transition to a fossil-free and competitive energy system. Together, we can create a safe and competitive solution for new nuclear power in the Nordic region,” says Anna Honnér, Head of the Connected Energy Division at Rejlers.

NNE is working on two technology tracks that fulfil different roles within the energy system. BWR-N, where N stands for Nordic, is a modernised large-scale boiling water reactor based on well-established Nordic reactor designs with a long operational history. The company is also developing micro-modular reactor solutions (MMR), tailored for applications such as energy-intensive industry.

The aim is to enter into a final agreement during the year for the development and commercialisation of the BWR-N and MMR technologies.
