The site at Slussen, where the Baltic Sea meets Lake Mälaren, has for centuries been shaped by infrastructure, industry and the movement of people.
The Nobel Center will focus on public activities and be open to everyone all year round. It will be a place for Nobel Prize laureates, researchers, students, school pupils and visitors from Sweden and around the world.
Sustainability and a low climate impact have been decisive factors in the choice of a timber structural frame and reclaimed brick for the façade. The building also combines ambitious technical solutions with timeless architectural qualities rooted in history, while clearly looking to the future.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the opening planned for 2031. The building is designed by David Chipperfield Architects’ Berlin office.
Rejlers has been commissioned to design the electrical and telecommunications systems for the new Nobel Center, thereby playing an important role in delivering innovative technical solutions that meet the project’s high sustainability and climate requirements while supporting the architectural design.
The Nobel Center will become a natural yet distinctive addition to the city’s waterfront. It will be a home for Alfred Nobel’s unique legacy for generations to come.
