The largest investment in the history of the Finnish forestry industry
Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is currently planning a project to build a new bioproduct mill in Kemi. The investment is valued at approximately EUR 2.02 billion, making it the largest investment in the history of the Finnish forest industry.
The design agreement included the implementation planning of deliveries by Valmet, Metsä Fibre’s main implementation partner, covering the mill’s main processes and automation system. The database-based ProElina system was used for the design.
High environmental, energy and material efficiency
The starting point for the design of the new bioproduct mill is high environmental, energy and material efficiency. The mill will be built with the best available techniques (BAT). When finished, it will not use any fossil fuels, and its electricity self-sufficiency is planned to be 250%.
The current design agreement includes implementation planning for deliveries by Valmet, Metsä Fibre’s main implementation partner, covering the mill’s main processes and automation system. The project will have a significant employment effect for Rejlers. Metsä Fibre decided to invest in the new mill in February 2021, and construction began after the decision was made.
“A strong and motivated attitude”
“Rejlers is a familiar partner of ours, and we are certain of their professionalism and capability to deliver such an important project for us. Rejlers also demonstrated a particularly strong and motivated attitude to achieve our shared goal,” says Jari-Pekka Johansson, Manager of the Bioproduct Mill Project at Metsä Fibre.
“We have decades of experience designing projects for the wood processing industry and delivering electrification, instrumentation and automation projects. Our long-term partnerships with Valmet and Metsä Fibre and our expert personnel ensured Rejlers was chosen as the implementation planner,” says Harri Häyhä, Business Line Director at Rejlers Finland.
“We would like to thank the customer and implementation partners for their trust and are really happy to be able to contribute to this important project,” says Häyhä.
