Rejlers strengthens offering in Sustainable Buildings

There is a great and untapped potential in energy efficiency and renovation of the country's existing property portfolio in the journey towards a fossil-free Sweden. As part of this, Rejlers is now strengthening the offering within Sustainable Buildings with a particular focus on redevelopment and the entire building's life cycle.

The construction and real estate sector accounts for about a third of Sweden's energy use and just over a fifth of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning. In connection with new construction, much is already being done to meet stricter requirements for, among other things, certifications and material choices. Within existing buildings, on the other hand, there is a great potential to significantly reduce emissions through energy efficiency and thus help the industry to achieve its ambitious goals.

"Energy efficiency is an important part of the energy transition and to cope with the high pace of electrification. This, combined with higher electricity prices and material shortages, means that we need to rethink the design of buildings and their energy systems in the future. It's about taking a bigger grip on the building's entire life cycle," says Katrine Lind, Business Manager Sustainable Buildings at Rejlers.

At the turn of the year, new legislation entered into force, both at EU and national level, that addresses sustainability and energy issues in the real estate industry. Rejlers can, for example, help customers meet the EU taxonomy's requirements for energy efficiency regarding buildings, and also the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s requirements to draw up climate declarations for new construction projects and major renovations. To arrive at the best solutions, collaboration and transfer of knowledge is required at the earliest possible stage of the construction or renovation process.

"Issues related to energy and sustainability in the construction and real estate sector have historically often been dealt with separately. Our experts have solid specialist expertise and work cross-functionally. This, combined with our long experience of running large energy projects in real estate, means that we can take overall responsibility," says Katrine Lind.

Rejlers' Sustainable Buildings offer includes services such as environmental and energy coordination, material inventory, environmental certification, energy and climate calculations, energy auditing, implementation of energy projects, energy optimisation, local energy production and strategic services.

The customers in the sector are developers, contractors, municipal and private property owners, industries and other businesses that in some way have the opportunity to influence the energy, environment and sustainability of a building.
