Rejlers advices as the industry in Norway electrifies

The industrial sector is in transition to find new ways to contribute to increased sustainability and efficiency. In Norway, Gyproc is building the world's first carbon-free plasterboard factory. Rejlers provides advice and innovation in the project that exemplifies the electrification of the industrial sector in the country.
Glava is responsible for electrifying the plasterboard factory in Fredrikstad, Norway. When the factory is completed in 2023, Gyproc will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 23 000 tonnes, while production capacity increases by 40%. Rejlers is responsible for the project planning of the power supply that will replace the natural gas currently used for the combustion and drying of the plasterboard.
For Saint-Gobain, who owns Glava, the electrification of the factory in Fredrikstad is a strategic pilot project for the 70 corresponding factories around the world. Rejlers is one of Norway's leading players in advising the power industry, and is now positioning itself in this market.
"Energy is our core competence and an area where we have 75 years of experience. At the same time, this is the first time we have transformed an existing factory, which uses gas, into a carbon-free factory. Our strength lies both in our own expertise and in our wide network of partners, which allows us to take on this type of complex project," says Jørn Rune Mikalsen, division Energy at Rejlers in Norway.
In order to provide the Fredrikstad factory with sufficient electricity, two new grid stations will be built with a total of seven transformers, which will house technical installations for Norway's Nett, which owns the substations. The factory will have an energy consumption of approximately 240 GWh per year, which corresponds to the energy consumption of approximately 20,000 Norwegians.
